Victory Gardens needs volunteers

Hamilton Victory Gardens is looking for volunteers for the coming growing season.
The not-for-profit organization uses a dedicated team of community volunteers working together to build, plant, maintain and harvest numerous urban gardens throughout the city in order to provide fresh produce for those in marginalized communities.
In 2013, the total harvest from seven garden sites was over 30,000 pounds of fresh produce, all of which was donated to local food banks and charities. Two new garden sites — one in the east end and one on the Mountain — are planned for this year and the 2014 goal is 45,000 pounds.
A meeting is being held March 25, 7-9 p.m. at Dr. John M. Perkins Centre, 1429 Main St. East, for anyone interested in learning more about the program or getting involved, either directly in the gardens or behind the scenes with produce delivery or administration.
Another meeting is planned for April 8 from 7-9 p.m. at Harmony Baptist Church, 1763 Upper James St.
