Valentine’s Day provided a little heartbreak for the Dundas Blues Junior C hockey club.
A three goal second period and a hot goaltender helped end the Blues’ season in a 4-1 Game 7 loss to rival Chippawa Riverhawks in Dundas, Tuesday night.
Chippawa now moves on to the second round of the Niagara District Junior C league playoffs, as the Blues end an up-and-down season that culminated in a tight back-and-forth playoff series.
Despite 42 Dundas shots on Chippawa’s goalie only Mitch Reid found the back of the net for Dundas. But that was part way through the third period, after Chippawa scored three unanswered goals in the middle frame. Chippawa’s David Johnston stopped 41 shots for the win.
Chippawa and Dundas finished the 36-game regular season tied in fourth place in the East Division with 33 points. But the Blues edged their rival for third place by virtue of 16 regular season wins compared to Chippawa’s 15 wins.
