Camp director Robert Blunsdon, centre, is shown with his Grade 3 class from Pauline Johnson School, along with Chris Cutler, left, and Tim Galvin, both from the Rotary Club of Hamilton. The donation to the Rotary Summer Literacy Program will enable 1,000 children to attend the popular Hamilton summer camp for six weeks.

Telling Tales helps turn the page for literacy

The Telling Tales Festival supports local literacy initiatives through its fundraising efforts. This year, $10,000 in festival proceeds will be divided between three Hamilton-based literacy organizations, bringing total donated funds since the festival’s inception to well over $60,000.

Some $5,000 from this year’s festival will go to the Rotary Summer Literacy Program, $2,500 to the Read to Your Baby pilot project and $2,500 to Hamilton Literacy Council.

Each of these groups hasmet the requirements set out by the Telling Tales Literacy Funding Committee and speaks to the festival’s mission of building a national festival that promotes children’s literature and a love of reading, while raising awareness and support for local literacy in our community.
