Police probing Mountain home invasion

Police are looking for a thin, white male, about six-feet tall in his early 30s with light brown hair following a home invasion and robbery on the west Mountain.

Around 4 a.m. on Saturday a man armed with a knife burst into an apartment in a house on Fennell Avenue West near Upper James.

Police say the entry roused the 23-year-old lone male occupant who was sleeping at the time.

The occupant struggled briefly with the intruder who fled with some cash and electronics.

Police say they believe the unit was specifically targeted by the thief.

The occupant was not hurt.

 Thief busted

Police arrested one man and are looking for another after two men were spotted trying to break into parked cars in the Westcliffe area of the Mountain.

Around 3:30 a.m. Saturday police were called to the area of Price Avenue near Leslie Avenue by a witness who briefly chased the suspects.

Police followed footprints in the snow to the yard of a home on Leslie Avenue where they found a man hiding.

The suspect was found to have some items, including electronics and tools, which are believed to have been stolen from cars in the area.

The other suspect was not found.

Forty-four-year-old Blaine Wadden of Hamilton is facing two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000 and breach of probation.

The matter remains under investigation by Mountain detectives.
