More than 75 students from grades 6 to 8 have been working since January to bring Camp Getaway to the stage.

Play a labour of love for the Ashcroft clan

The last annual play directed by Sheila Ashcroft-Shupe at Dundas Central Public School will be presented May 7 and 8 at 7 p.m. From set designs and painting, to sound boards and lights, more than 75 students have been working hard since January with no guidance and assistance from adults. This year’s production is loosely adapted from the children’s novel by Canadian author Gordan Korman called I Want to Go Home.

For over 30 years, with the help of her daughters, Ashcroft-Shupe has been writing and directing school plays for the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board. Rachel Shupe-Joudrie co-wrote and adapted this year’s play, while Veronica Shupe-Bowen has organized a play blog (, mixed the m usic score, created the program and co- directed.

Ashcroft-Shupe will be retiring in June.  Tickets  for Camp Getaway are $3 at the door, 73 Melville St., Dundas.
