Hamilton Amateur Astronomers are cancelling their Perseids meteor shower event scheduled for tonight.
The annual event at Binbrook Conservations Area has been called off due to poor weather conditions.
The forecast is calling for rain and thunderstorms at Binbrook this evening. The event has been in the planning stages with club volunteers for months and is an annual tradition. It’s one of the major astronomy public outreach programs the club offers.
Over the years, the event has introduced hundreds of people to the world of astronomy. A few years ago, more than 800 people attended the event, the non-profit club said. However, this year public safety must come first and the intense cloud cover will be make observing the meteors shower impossible.
