Like many kindergarten classrooms, a visit to Anita Bremer’s senior kindergarten class at Providence Christian School will reveal happy students working on art projects, reading and writing skills.
The difference in Bremer’s class is that a visit is only a click away. Her classroom can be viewed twice a week through updates on her blog, mrsbremersk.blogspot.com.
The blog was recently recognized as one of the Top 50 early education blogs by the Teacher Certification and Education Online Guide.
Bremer has been blogging about her kindergarten class for just over two years. She has been a teacher for nearly 20 years, and in 1996 she began teaching at Dundas Calvin Christian School, which was recently renamed Providence.
“I love teaching young children,” Bremer said. “They are naturally curious and love to learn. That is a great motivator for me to keep learning in the classroom fun and engaging.”
The blog has opened up many opportunities for Bremer, including speaking engagements at the Edifide Teacher’s Convention for Ontario Christian school teachers, an online store and the chance to review products from international companies that create learning resources.
Although the blog is geared to teachers, it has the added benefit of keeping parents informed of what children are learning in the classroom.
“As parents see their children in action, it helps them make connections at home to reinforce learning,” she said.
