Registration for the fifth annual Angelo Tinebra Memorial Hockey for Heart tournament is open. The adult, recreational level hockey tournament is May 12 at the Mohawk 4 Ice Centre. Teams play three games while raising money for the Hamilton branch of the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Fundraisers can earn prizes including the chance to test their skills in the ProStars game or to ‘Shoot to Win’ $10,000.
Angelo Tinebra was into soccer; he never played hockey. In fact he used hockey sticks with no blades to hold up the tomatoes in the garden, says his son Alfonso, the organizer of the tournament.
Angelo died from a heart attack when Alfonso was only five years old. Alfonso started to cope with the loss of his father through his love for hockey and became inspired to get involved with the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
