It was a beautiful sunny day at Martino Park on Saturday as Dundas Little League wrapped up its 60th season with championship games in all divisions, a barbecue and lots of smiles.
In the National League T-ball championship, the impressive Go Bee Brewers fought off a great Junkaroo Royals team to earn honours as the top team in the senior T-ball circuit.
In the American League T-ball final, the Marlatt Funeral Home White Sox edged the Cal-Chek Canada Blue Jays to take the title.
The Minor and Major Baseball champions were crowned in two of the best, most exciting games ever played.
The Phoenix Fitness White Sox and the Paul Dowhaniuk State Farm Insurance Giants played for the Minor Baseball trophy. The game was tied 9-9 going into the last inning, and some great and tense moments on both sides made the almost two-hour marathon worth every minute. The Giants scored three in their half to take a 12-9 lead, then held the White Sox to one in the bottom to earn the championship.
The Mountain Pure Springs Royals and the Thompson Jewellers and Pawnbrokers Brewers staged an epic battle in the Major Baseball division. The Royals held a 3-1 lead going into the last inning, but in a gut-wrenching sixth inning, some clutch hits and base-running pushed two runs across the plate for the Brewers to send the game into extra frames.
Both teams had to go deep into their pitching rotations for a seventh inning that still left the game knotted at three. In the 8th, the Brewers scored three runs, but the Royals squeezed in the winning run with a dramatic slide into home.
Dundas Little League thanks volunteers for their efforts to create memories and friendships for the kids, and for their help in growing the game of baseball in Dundas.
