Major Atom Dynamo making big strides

When ascending a mountain, the climb is never easy, but the Dundas Dynamo Major Atom girls fearlessly took another step upward by winning silver in Kitchener last weekend.

The tournament opened with the Dynamo pumping in a season high 55 points. Jenna Button led the offensive attack over the Toronto Triple Treat. The next match was tighter as the Chatham-Kent Wildcats scrapped till the final buzzer, before Dundas prevailed 25-23. The Dynamo sweep was complete following a decisive 47-36 win over the North Toronto Huskies.

In the semi-final, the Guelph CYO Knights were stymied by the Dundas defence. Abbey Maillet pressured opposing guards and Kayla Simmonds pounded the key for multiple points en route to a 47-29 victory.

The win set up a rematch with Chatham, and it was a gruelling game. After giving up an early lead, the Dundas girls made a valient effort but bowed out 33-23. Lauren Perron was the player of the game for her strong two-way play. In addition to their third podium placing in three tries, the Dynamo girls have pushed their overall record to 16-4 and continue to climb higher in the ranks of Ontario Girls Basketball.
