Junior C Blues on win streak heading into playoff round

By Craig Campbell, News Staff

Kevin Jaczenko scored two goals and Mitch Reid added a goal and an assist to help lead the Dundas Blues to their third straight win in Niagara District Junior C hockey league play.

The Blues continued their winning streak as they enter the final two weeks of the regular season with the East division’s third place in sight and home ice advantage in the first round of playoffs. The 6-2 victory over St. George was Dundas’ fifth win in their last six games.

General manager Steve Aglor credited head coach Mike Christian for getting the team working hard in practice.

“We have really come on in the last month and plan on finishing the schedule out strong, preparing for the playoffs,” Aglor said.

“It should be interesting down the stretch. After 31 games, only two points separate third to fifth.”

On the night Mark Sinclair received Niagara District Junior C Player of the Month honours for December, the Dundas Blues goalie stepped up to stop 29 of 31 St. George shots.

But the Blues went on an offensive barrage, firing 47 shots on the St. George net.
Dundas bolstered its short defensive corps last week, signing blueliners Chris Buswell and Josh Wiley. Wiley comes to Dundas after parts of two seasons with the Hamilton Red Wings and 33 games last year with Toronto Lakeshore Patriots, both of the Ontario Provincial Junior A hockey league.

Both new players helped out their new team. Wiley assisted on Jaczenko’s first-period goal and Buswell assisted on Derek Searle’s early second period goal, along with Incze.
Jaczenko scored Dundas’ third goal 14 minutes into the second period on a power play.

The match got wild in the final five minutes of the middle frame as four penalties were handed out and four goals were scored, including one by St. George and two more from Dundas, courtesy of Max Stafford and Brayden Knott. Incze and Jordan Peacock each contributed two assists.

Dunnville visits Dundas on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 7:30 p.m., then the Blues hit the road for four straight games starting in Chippawa on Thursday, Jan. 24, then continuing in Paris on Saturday, Jan. 26.

Dundas returns home to Grightmire Arena to end the regular season against St. George on Thursday, Jan. 31.
