The Ancaster Magic Major Atom basketball team recently travelled to Chicago to compete in the National Summer Classic Tournament. The event involved more than 300 teams at different age levels. The Magic, coached by Mike DiFederico and Stef Giovannangeli, were the only Canadian team in their age group at the tournament.
The girls, proudly sporting their Canadian tattoos and Magic colours, battled hard through seven games in three days. They were introduced to many new rules in Chicago, compared to the rules of the Ontario Basketball Association. Through hard work and dedication to defence, the Ancaster Magic team finished second in its pool. In a come-from-behind victory, they won their quarter-final game and made it into the final four. While the Ancaster girls were unable to finish the tournament with a medal, the coaches and parents are very proud of their fourth place finish.
