The Ancaster youngster with the really big voice has released his first original song.

Eleven-year-old Mason Greer’s In Love’s Arms is now available on iTunes.

“I really hope people like it and purchase it and tell all their friends,” said Mason.

In Love’s Arms was recorded with a full, live band last summer at Grant Avenue Studios. The song — about a boy who feels protected from the sound of thunder in his mother’s arms — was written by Mason’s music teacher Cydney London Speers.

“I feel it is an honour for me to have someone write a song, not only for me, but about me and my mom,” said Mason. “Just knowing that they chose to write a song for me to sing, makes me feel proud.”

Mason has felt the influence of music since he was very young. Buoyed by praise for his rich singing voice from friends, family and the St. Ann School community, Mason started taking lessons with London Speers.

He has competed in various music competitions, including the Ancaster Fair Got Talent competition, the Hamilton Music Awards and the Canadian National Exhibition’s Rising Star talent competition. Mason has also performed roles in Theatre Ancaster’s Aida and Theatre Westdale’s Les Miserables.

Last fall he among those on stage for Opera Hamilton’s Falstaff.

“…it was an amazing experience,” Mason said of Falstaff. “I worked with many famous opera singers, like John Fanning, Lyne Fortin and James Westman.  It was a very special production and a lot of hard work.”

Mason was also among the cast of Theatre Aquarius’ highly successful four-week holiday musical The Sound of Music. Mason said he met some great friends while entertaining audiences, practising his singing and harmonizing  and working on his dance moves.

“It was tiring but worth it,” said Mason. “I loved the set and the music.  The timing was perfect because so many people were able to come over the Christmas holidays.”

As for what’s next on the agenda of this aspiring young singer and actor, Mason said a recital in February is keeping him busy, and when the warmer weather arrives he’ll be working on an official video of In Love’s Arms.

Mason also plans to take his show on the road and perform at a variety of local venues.
