Play starts Black History Month
Hamilton's Black History Month celebration kicks off with the one-woman play "The Spirit of Harriet Tubman," Feb. 4 at 6 p.m. at the Lincoln Alexander Centre, 160 King St. E. Tubman played a main role in the Underground Railroad that helped American black slaves escape to free states and Canada. Tickets: adult: $20; youth: $10. Tickets: call 905-527-5651.
Burlington spring rec guide out
Burlington's 2017 spring and summer recreation guide, called the Live and Play guide is available at burlington.ca/play. Hard copies are available at City Hall, 426 Brant St., or public library branches and recreation centres. Details on how to register are on page 3 of the guide or at burlington.ca/play. Registrations start at 9 a.m. on Sat. Jan. 21.
Snow Angels needs volunteers
The City of Hamilton is not accepting applications or referrals to its Snow Angels program due to overwhelming demand. A list of accepted residents from last year is still awaiting volunteers. The program is free to low-income residents, eligible seniors or those with disabilities. Volunteers must be 14 or older, reliable and in good physical health.
