Jewish studies lecture
The 2017 Lillian and Marvin Goldblatt Lecture in Jewish Studies at McMaster University will be held Thursday, Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. Featuring the curator of Warsaw's POLIN Museum of the history of Polish Jews, who will speak of curating between hope and despair, the challenges facing Jewish museums in Europe today, and about recovering a thousand-year history of Jewish life. Cancer care doctor receives award
Dr. Stephen Sagar, McMaster University professor of oncology and radiation oncologist at Juravinski Cancer Centre, is being presented with a $50,000 award for excellence in complementary and alternative medicine. Sagar, one of five Canadians to be recognized, is a leader in the use of mind-body medicine and supportive care in treating cancer patients. He has also worked on regulatory standards and guidelines for complementary therapies. The prize recognizes innovators in non-traditional therapies.
Christmas tree collection
The City of Hamilton is picking up real Christmas trees from Jan. 9 to 21 on regular collection days as part of its waste collection program. All decorations (bulbs, tinsel, and lights) must be removed before placing your tree at the curb. Do not put your Christmas tree inside a plastic tree bag.
