The Stoney Creek Business Improvement Area is holding a celebration this weekend and everyone’s invited.
The BIA is hosting its first Saturdays in the Creek event on July 12 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. along King Street.
The party will feature local artists, food, live music and vintage cars and will take place from Second Street North to Rosedale Drive. Attendees are encouraged to bring donations for Hamilton Food Share.
“We’re inviting the community to come down and get to know the neighbourhood again and what we have to offer,” BIA member and Parkermanns Fine Tea Co. co-owner Sara Parker said. "There’s quite a good vibe happening down here.”
Parker said the BIA hopes to create “a new culture of community spirit” in Olde Town Stoney Creek, while also encouraging community members to support local businesses, merchants and organizations.
“We wanted to bring something fresh and new to the area and everybody’s on board,” she said. “It’s about good, old-fashioned neighbourhood community building and igniting community spirit...We just need to light the fire and let people know that there is an alternative to big box store shopping and that there are great things happening down here.”
Parker, whose tea shop has been part of the area for more than two years, said new businesses continue to join the downtown landscape.
“We have more and more businesses coming to the area, including a new Italian bakery that’s going to be opening soon across from Elm Grocery and Deli,” she said. “We are getting more and more variety down there. When you combine that with the amazing businesses, merchants and organizations that are already down here, great customer-oriented and personalized service, the area’s natural beauty and all of its available parking, you’ve got one great shopping experience.”
Parker said the BIA is looking to hold the event the second Saturday of every month.
“We’re going to try to do this every month with the hopes it will catch on and encourage people to come down here more often,” she said. “It’s guaranteed to be a fun-filled family event for all to enjoy. It’s ultimately about coming together to have a good time and to support each other.”
