Local grandmother groups Mabibi Wa Tama, Grapevine Grans and Grandmothers of Steel are participating in the fifth annual Stride to Turn the Tide.
The national fundraising walk takes place June 14 from 9 a.m. until noon.
Grandmothers and their supporters will gather at Hutch’s parking lot on the Beach Strip and show their solidarity for African grandmothers, declaring that “We will not rest until they can rest.”
The groups join thousands of grandmothers across Canada, walking to build awareness about the HIV/AIDS pandemic while raising funds to support African grandmothers and the children in their care.
All funds raised will go to the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign, supporting grassroots projects in sub-Saharan Africa.
