Dylan Hierlihy, 4, Benjamin Faulknor, 12, of Hamilton, along with Solomon Zandberg, 9, of Ancaster, are back from The War Amps 2013 Ontario Child Amputee (CHAMP) seminar in Richmond Hill.
The seminar brought together child amputees from across the province while also honouring the association’s 95th anniversary.
Dylan is a double leg amputee, Benjamin is a right leg amputee and Solomon is a right arm amputee. They attended the three-day seminar, which focused on the latest developments in artificial limbs, dealing with teasing and bullying, and parenting an amputee child. The opening session paid tribute to the long history of the War Amps, and its continuing legacy of “amputees helping amputees.”
A highlight at the seminar was the Amputees in Action session, where Champs demonstrated their standard and recreational artificial limbs and devices. Solomon showed off his hockey device and the bike adaptation he uses to hold on to the handle bar. CHAMP is funded solely through public support of the War Amps key tag and address label service.
