Friends rally to support Asante family

Ancaster News

By Debra Downey, Senior Editor

Family and friends of George Asante are rallying to support the 29-year-old after a Thanksgiving Day crash killed his parents and left him to raise his four younger siblings.

“George has gone from sibling to parent to four children overnight,” said friend Lisa McDonald. “Debra is 18, Phoebe is 16, David is 10 and Isaac is five.”

Asante’s parents, Rev. Isaac Acheampong and his wife Cecilia, died after  a single vehicle accident on the I-80/94 overpass in Portage, Mich. The couple was travelling in the United States to attend a  funeral.

McDonald said donations to the Asante family can be made at any Ontario branch of TD Canada Trust. A Pay Pal account has also been established. For more information contact

“Financial contributions are only one option of helping  support the family in immediate and ongoing need,” said McDonald.

Donations of clothing, gift cards and non-perishable food items are also welcome.
