Westminster experience was a dream come true

She didn’t get the big win she was hoping for, but a trip to Westminster was still a dream come true for Josephine Lambert and her basset hounds Foxy Brown and Cecil B. DeMille.

Lambert, an Ancaster resident, was featured in numerous print articles and television interviews leading up to her Feb. 11 appearance at the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York City.

While missing out on the Best of Breed title and a spot in the Feb. 12 final, Foxy captured a Best of Opposite Sex award and Cecil earned a victory as the only class dog.

Cecil, a male red and white basset, and Foxy, a tri-coloured female, have already racked up numerous awards at dog shows across Canada and the U.S. Foxy is also an American champion and Cecil is working to achieve the same distinction.

“I think the prize for me was just being there but their ribbons certainly are nice to add to our ribbon board,” said Lambert.

Competing in their first benched show – where spectators are invited to see the dogs and speak to the handlers – Lambert enjoyed meeting hundreds of fans.

“There were so many flashes of cameras I thought we were on the red carpet in Hollywood,” Lambert said. “(The dogs) loved the attention and they felt like little celebs at the show.”

Other than having her son, Ryan, 28 years ago, Lambert said her Westminster experience is the biggest joy of her life.

“Cecil and Foxy will continue their show careers here in Canada and in the US and I am sure there will be many memorable times but none as memorable as our Westminster experience,” she said.
